Aussie Dare 30 - Ad Inspiration

The other day as I was browsing our local tv guide I noticed a cool ad and decided that I could do something with it, so I tore it out of the paper and put it on my scrapbooking desk. The next day Aussie Dare 30 was put up on the web and the dare is to be inspired by an ad.

So here is my layout inspired by the ad. It's not digital! I altered the photo of Sophie-Lee in Photoshop and then Douglas printed it out for me. I cut it out and added the circles and the flowers from cardstock and patterned paper, with a touch of pen.

Here's the ad.

Weekend Workout - Anything With Wheels

Here's my "wheels" rendition for this weekend. The Scrapapple Weekend Workout challenge is just what I needed to scrap this photo of Declan behind the wheel of Daddy's sportscar.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Dreamworld

The most I could do to enjoy myself on my first trip to Dreamworld recently was to take photos.

My friends and I wandered around the tourist-oriented park wondering if we should go on any rides. I was going to but all the warnings recommended that if you had a bad back it was wise not to do so.

Well, I did have a bad back and wasn't prepared to risk further injury - so I didn't ride. But I did take a couple of photos. Here's one of my faves.

Stitching For Therapy

Lately I have found hand-stitching to have a therapeutic effect on me. Just the quiet repetition of stitches leaves my mind free to ponder, wonder and enjoy the moment.

I used to embroider - that was years ago now - and I have done cross-stitching and sewing clothes for the kids, but nothing beats the feeling I had yesterday while I was bunging together a few bits of felt to make a 'First Aid Kit'.

Sewing on scrapbooking layouts is therapy too, but very difficult in comparison to sewing fabric. I felt rejuvenated, excited and thoroughly mellowed out when I finished this art journal felt goodies bag.

Orders will not be taken!

Wook Mum

"Wook at my hands. They're so boo'ful."

Is he gorgeous or what? Hudson and textas go together. Apparently Hudson has my genes - funny that! I coloured in the walls in my bedroom, Dad's books, myself - anything I could get my hands on. I even remember drawing a line on the wall from the top of the stairs to the bottom! There isn't a wall in our house that has not been decorated by Hudson. I'm very thankful for water washable textas.

Actually, I saw these textas the other day that ONLY worked on the special paper that came with them and didn't work on carpet, walls, or skin, or anything - skin's cheaper!

Aussie Dare No 29 - Fantasy

I had fun doing this layout. Just give me some cardstock and a pen or two and I'm happy. I loved to read fairy stories when I was little so this photo came to mind straight away for Aussie Dare No 29. It is such a cute picture of my sister and I playing with daisies on the front steps of our little house in England.

The journalling reads:Deborah and I used to pick the daisies that grew freely in the lawn at 4 Box View, Colerne, Wiltshire. I always kept my eyes peeled for a ring of daisies - evidence that those creatures of my imagination existed.

Having a Ball

In the last school holidays our friends held a 'ball'. The girls all dressed up, they danced, they drank cups of tea politely, and gave the mothers a piano recital. We had a lovely time and I came away with one or two photos.

I was fiddling around with my newly acquired camera trying to work out how to get the lighting right and capture the moments. I love this photo of Grace giving a twirl in the 'ballroom'.

We're All Stars

Someone said, " We can't all be stars, but we can all twinkle." I say, "We're all stars."

You guessed it - the theme for the Scrapapple Weekend Workout is 'stars'. I made my own twinkle type and now I have to vacuum my scrapbooking room - I'll probably never get rid of all that sparkly stuff. At least it is pretty.

Love This Man

At last I have jacked Jill! It took me ages until I ditched my original photo and subject and changed to this one.

Douglas and I have been wonderfully married for 17 years. We've known each other for 23 years. By God's grace (and sometimes mercy!), we're gonna love each other forever.

I had fun using some of my newly acquired Bella products.

Unmasked

Here are Susannah, Reuben, Caitlin and Malachi with their self-portraits. Not bad seeing as they only had a rather large paintbrush each.

Masked

The other day while we driving home Reuben had an idea - "Let's make Bionicle masks! Do we have any boxes Mum?"

Well it just so happens that I hate to throw away a box. I have rather a large collection of boxes but I was getting really close to putting my tower of pizza boxes (that's what my scrapbooking prizes come in) into the recycling. I'm so glad I didn't because Susannah did a great job of crafting six masks.

She made Reuben's first and made hers last. Reuben was a bit put out that Susannah was doing special cutting effects on her mask - she had all the benefit of her previous mask-making experience.

Is It Tomorrow Today?

No doubt you've heard the saying "Tomorrow never comes". Well at our house tomorrow came!!!

Declan has been asking obsessively for the last three days if he could paint and the answer seemed to always be, "Tomorrow". (Mwah ha ha ha)

Yesterday Declan asked "Is it tomorrow today? and I said "Yes!" How could I resist? The child wanted to be creative.

Declan will never believe that tomorrow never comes.

One of my favourite sayings is "Today is the tomorrow that yesterday you spent money like there was no." Love it! Love the English language - it is SO much fun.

Abundant Life

When I read that Aussie Dare 28 was to scrapbook my spirituality I was excited and overwhelmed at the same time. I like to be able to scrapbook about my faith in God and my life as a Christian but at the same time how on earth could I scrapbook about such a huge topic and do it justice? I can't! So, I have taken one miniscule part of my life - the abundant part - and scrapbooked that.

I love what the team at Who Dares Wins have done for this challenge.

I can't live without...

Well, actually, I am sure that I could live without my mobile phone - I don't want to, but I could.

Other things that I could live without but don't want to, are: progesterone cream; filtered water; my computer; the Internet, and in particular, Google. Not to mention, my dh, family and friends; electricity; water; and a clean loo. Oh, and there is light and colour and music - wouldn't want to live without them.

There's only one thing I don't think I can live without - sleep! I haven't tried it but I have pushed the boundaries a little and it wasn't pleasant.

So anyway. Scrapapple's Weekend Workout this week is to scrap ONE thing that you can't live without. Here's mine.

The background is made up of the most common numbers I use on my mobile (don't try calling them because they are not exactly the same) interspersed with the names of the people I have in my address book.

Inspiration in Wedding Cakes

The other day I was just browsing the local Newsagent when I came across this magazine. I had a quick flick through it and it leapt out at me and grabbed me. I managed to resist for about a week but today I weakened. It has some absolutely amazing cakes in it and I am inspired - not to make cakes. I am inspired by the colours, the shapes, the creativity of the cake 'artists' and I want to translate some of that inspiration to papercraft. Keep a lookout.
